After 50 years working with horses at Golden Gate Fields, Faith Taylor, like many of her fellow trainers, found herself "lost" in the years following the park's closure.

Of the 6,107 monitoring sites visible on a state-run "Safe to Swim" map, which displays bacterial sampling results including *E. coli*, enterococcus and fecal coliforms, only 611 have been updated in the past year.  
  
From Bay Nature: "Even Andrew Hamilton, an assistant deputy director at the State Water Boards’ Office of Information Management and Analysis, which publishes the map, recommends swimmers check elsewhere. He calls the Safe to Swim map 'somewhat aspirational.'"
