Albany was once known by a different official name, as well as an unofficial name and an uncomfortable nickname, all of which culminated in a year-long deliberation on what the city should be called.

Albany Fire Department's annual pancake breakfast is next Saturday. **City of Albany*

The [Albany Fire Department's annual Pancake Breakfast](https://www.albanyca.gov/City-Calendar/2026/Albany-Fire-Department-Pancake-Breakfast-2026?ref=albanyscanner.com) takes place Saturday, Oct. 10, from 8 a.m. to noon at the fire station (1000 San Pablo Ave.).

Guests can participate in a raffle, view natural gas safety demos and a live fire, and meet Sparky the Fire Dog. Pancakes are prepared by Albany firefighters.

Tickets can be purchased at the door. Admission costs $12 for adults and $8 for kids ages 3-12). The event is free for those 2 and younger. Proceeds benefit the [Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation](https://www.aarbf.org/?ref=albanyscanner.com).
