Gov. Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency Monday to mobilize resources ahead of the El Niño storm season, which experts say has the potential to be "the strongest in recorded history."

"Through the Governor’s state of emergency, we’re cutting red tape and fast‑tracking the flood‑protection and broader preparedness work communities need now," California Natural Resources Secretary Wade Crowfoot said in a press release.
