Albany Scanner to launch $10,000 matching campaign
Help us raise $20,000 by Sept. 30, thanks to a new match from a generous local donor.

Albany Scanner is officially up and running.
For the past two weeks, we've brought you stories about schools, housing, the November election, arts and culture, community features and more — the kind of reporting we created Albany Scanner to provide.
Now, as we celebrate our launch, we're getting ready for another big milestone: Next week, we'll reopen Albany Scanner memberships — after you've had a bit more time to get to know our work.
And there's an extra reason to join us: Thanks to a generous local donor, every first-time gift will be matched, dollar for dollar, up to $10,000 through Sept. 30.
Become a new Charter Member with a gift of $300. You'll receive a one-year Scanner membership and be part of the group that helped establish our newsroom. And during this campaign, $300 becomes $600.
You can also choose your own giving level. All gifts are welcome — and every dollar helps.
Able to dig even deeper? Tax-deductible major gifts of $1,000 or more can be made through our fiscal sponsor.
We pledge to put the bulk of what we raise toward journalism, not overhead, as we work toward hiring a full-time journalist for the site.
Why this campaign matters
Albany Scanner is 100% reader-supported. There's no paywall: Our journalism is free for everyone, regardless of whether they can contribute.
Each Scanner membership helps ensure all of Albany is informed.
If you're just tuning in, we're sharing four to six new stories each week, along with our regular newsletter and reader comments, as we build toward a full publishing schedule in 2027.
If you haven't signed up for our emails, now's the time.

P.S. Please help us spread the word! Share Albany Scanner with a friend and invite them to sign up. The more people who know about our work, the stronger Albany's new source for local news can become.
